Steinberg est heureux d'annoncer le vu-mètre Loudness SLM 128, un plug-in* VST 3 qui permet la mesure du niveau de Loudness normalisé EBU R 128 depuis Cubase 6.5 et Nuendo 5 ou supérieurs.
Dans les dernières décennies, le niveau de Loudness des publicités radio et télé a été considérablement augmenté — un phénomène souvent référencé comme la "guerre du loudness". Dans le but d'harmoniser les niveaux audio, l'Union de Broadcast Européenne (EBU) a introduit la norme R 128, une approche de la mesure du Loudness basée sur la nouvelle "Loudness Unit Full Scale" (LUFS). Au 31 Août 2012, beaucoup de diffuseurs n'accepteront plus que les signaux audio compatibles avec la norme EBU R 128.
"C'est pourquoi nous avons décidé de créer un outil de mesure du Loudness dans un délai très court, qui permet à nos utilisateurs de rendre leurs mixages compatibles R 128," annonce Timo Wildenhain, product marketing manager chez Steinberg.

Pro audio is moving decisively away from the peak level based normalization method that has caused so much havoc with trailers in movie theaters, commercials in broadcast and hyper-compressed pop/rock in music.
The new and better mantra is to combine frequency weighting with an energy-integrated measure of sound, or equivalent continuous sound level, abbreviated Leq. Broadcast has standardized on Leq(K) for measuring loudness, and for the balancing of programs, while level regulation of commercials and trailers in movie theaters is based on a measure of annoyance, also known as Leq(M).
